Complex fluids
We investigate the rheological properties of non-Newtonian glass-forming liquids within lithographically-defined microchannels in the range of temperatures above the vitrification region. The non-Newtonian behaviour of fluids is taken into account in the equations describing the microfluidic motion, and the penetration dynamics into capillaries is therefore related with the liquid rheological properties. Microfluidics is a promising analytical approach for the investigation of the rheology of complex fluids within confined microenvironments.

 4_1_1
Covered length, z, along microfabricated channels vs. time, t, at different temperatures, for a non-Newtonian glass formers above the glass transition, with the best fits according to our modelling.
